Top Math-Φ

Workshop on “Hot Topics” in Mathematical Physics

Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile

April 24-27 & May 2-5, 2017

The research in Chile in fundamental sciences like mathematics and physics is growing quite quickly. Is a matter of fact that Chlie hosts a number of institutes whose members perform excellent research in mathematical and theoretical physics. The number of students who feel the desire to approach this fields of investigation is constantly increasing.

All these reasons provide good enough motivations to decide an annual school for PhD students interested in engaging into a research activity in mathematical and/or theoretical physics. The “Top Math-Φ”, organized in collaboration between the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and the Universidad Andres Bello, aspire to be the answer to this need.

The aim of the school is to bring together students and researchers together in a creative environment in order to share knowledge and create new contacts and interaction. The payoff of such investment is manifold: promoting interdisciplinary research activities; closing the gap between the communities of mathematical and theoretical physicists; establishing synergies between universities in Chile.

The workshop will count with the support of speakers coming from both mathematics and physics and with a well-estabilished international profile. It is planned a series of long talks (90 min.) and four mini-courses (four lectures each of 45 min.) as well as free time dedicated to brainstorming between students and experienced researchers.

The school will be organized in the mathematical faculty of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile in the campus San Joaquin. The workshoop is totaly costless. Nevertheless we would appreciate an informal registration by sending an email to contacts in order to optimize the organization of the event.

Even though there is no guarantee to have funds dedicated to help students in attending the workshop we cannot a priori to exclude the possibility. For this reasons we strongly encourage the interested students which need some type of help to write at support.

The organization of the workshop has been supported by the Vicerrectoría de Investigación (VRI) de la Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile through the “Fondo de Apoyo para la Organización de Reuniones Científicas y Seminarios Interdisciplinarios”.
